Smita Kinkale, born on 19 April 1977 in Tansa, a small village near Pune, is a highly ambitious individual with a futuristic approach to art and education. Smita’s journey into the world of art began at the Sir J. J School of Art, where her experiments pushed the boundaries of conventional art.
Driven by a passion to share her knowledge, Smita earned a Diploma in Art Education (Dip.A.Ed) from the same institution. In 2006, she joined Sir J. J School of Art as a lecturer, a position she has held to this day. Throughout her tenure, Smita has mentored numerous renowned artists and exceptional teachers, and has made significant contributions to art education through her lectures, workshops, presentations, and jury work. Some of her notable contributions include workshops for school students at Arnold School, Maharashtra State Art Collage Teacher Workshop at Sir J.J. School of Art, and her role as a Jury for K-Art International Juvenile Art Festival Practical Competition in Korea.
Smita is not just an educator, but also an accomplished artist whose work has been recognized nationally and internationally. Her paintings, created with polythene as a medium, which reflect her childhood experiences and offer as a critique of the material’s excessive use. She has participated in various group shows, held solo exhibitions, and her work has attracted attention from collectors worldwide.
In addition to her own art, Smita has curated numerous shows, including “Millenimals,” “The Moving Fingers,” “Rupantaran,” and “Samantar,” all executed with meticulous attention to detail. She has also written articles for various publications, such as “Roopabheda” for the Sir J.J School of Art, “Kalaankur,” and a special piece on 50 years of independence for a local newspaper.
With over 30 years of active involvement in the art field, Smita’s contributions extend beyond national boundaries. She continues to strengthen art education by nurturing the next generation of talented teachers.
